    Introduction

    By Alex Burr - hester_nec

Hello. Tho I am new to this media, blogging, I am not new to American Road. I've been around since the beginning. I do have a road trip web site, but decided to give this blog a try to post my rather infrequent road trips in the Memphis, TN, area.   Being nearly 73 years old I'm old enough to remember the good old days of 2-lane road travel. Indeed, I went with my folks in the late 40's and early 50's on several trips from southern Maine to the Dayton, Ohio, area to visit friends and relatives

OK Corral: Setting the Record Straight with Ike Clanton

Click here to listen… Click here to download.  In the winter of 2018, American Road Magazine published a 15th Anniversary issue of the magazine to highlight the special people and places we have visited during those years. One of our favorites was Terry “Ike” Clanton, a descendant of one of the cowboys cut down in the infamous battle of the OK Corral. The story has always been seen as a paean to Old West rough justice where retribution was swift and final. "Not so!" says Terry Clanton.

In the brief decade since, podcasts have become more

American Road Trip Talk (Podcast): Rusty Davis: Michigan's Underwater Byway

Click here to listen… Click here to download… Credit the dedication of passionate volunteers like Rusty Davis for finding the links to Michigan's first highway, Hull's Trace. It was part of the road carved out of the wilderness called Michigan and Ohio that followed well worn Native American trails and figured in the failed attempt to hang on to fort Detroit during the War of 1812. Some of that road, also known as Hull's Trace, follows existing highways, like M125 in southeast Michigan along
